INTERNATIONAL Dial-Up Access Now Available!

September 1, 2003 Mango Bay Internet began offering local dial-up Internet access nationwide.  Through recently signed agreements with several networks, customers now have over 5,000 access numbers to choose from.  This includes the entire U.S., (Alaska and Hawaii) most of Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan) Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

There are some important ground rules that everyone needs to know:

  • Usernames will be in the format of user@mangobay.com , in lower case and passwords are case sensitive.

  • An International list of over 5,000 access numbers is now available.

  • Please make sure that the new access number is local to you and that you are not incurring long distance charges. Call your operator or if you are an SBC customer, you can use their exchange lookup to make sure you are dialing a local call.  Alltel customers should take this notice very seriously as Alltel's calling area may be limited.  With over 40 access numbers in the Northeast Ohio area alone, it is just a matter of finding the correct local access number.  Please note that we cannot be responsible for any charges that are incurred.

  • For our customers across the United States -- We can now offer service to you!
Call us to switch to Mango Bay Internet Dialup Access!

  • All dial-up accounts have a 10 minute idle timeout and a maximum session of 5 hours.  If you have an unlimited account, these timeouts still apply.  This means that you might experience legitimate disconnects if your system is idle for more than 10 minutes.  Please do not confuse this with disconnects that are random and occur while you are surfing.  Report those to techsupport@mangobay.com.

  • The outgoing mail server for dial-up users specifically is smtp.mangobay.com  If you are not using our dialup, please do not change your settings as this server is only used for 56K and 128K ISDN customers.  There is a maximum of 200 messages that can be sent out per day and a 50 carbon copy maximum per message.  If you send out newsletters send an email to techsupport@mangobay.com and requests will be addressed on an individual basis.  We also offer mailing list services. Please call us for more details.

  • The NNTP news server specifically setup for dial-up access users is dialupnews.mangobay.com.  Use your dialup username and password to authenticate and access this server.

  • Due to how a call is routed, you may experience faster speeds using alternate access numbers.  We suggest that you look up our list of access numbers, confirm the numbers that are local to you and find the best connection.

  • Initial indications are that although connection speeds may be lower than usual, the throughput is much better.  For example, your connection speed may range from 28.8K - 53K.  However, surfing is much faster!  If it is not fast enough for you, our Turbo Dial service will be available October 1, 2003 or inquire about ADSL service.

  • Static IP addresses are available in certain areas.  Please call us for more details.

  • Most access numbers offer V.90 and the new V.92 ITU Standard.
(V.92 will be explained and featured in the October 1, 2003 newsletter)

We thank you for your patience during the upgrade.  We appreciate your business and the entire staff enjoyed speaking to our valued customers.  We believe that you will enjoy the International freedom!

Worst Blackout in History.  Mango Bay Internet: Fast, Reliable and 0% Downtime!

It was the best of times.  It was the worst of times.  On August 14, 2003, the Northeast was hit by a major power outage which is now referred to as the worst blackout in history.  Based in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio which is a suburb of Cleveland, Mango Bay Internet was at the heart of it all.  Researchers are still trying to determine whether a power line in nearby Walton Hills, Ohio started a series of events that caused the outage.  As early as 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, lights flickered and uninterruptible power supplies (ups) bellowed from the Network Operations Center.  The staff worked as a team and immediately took emergency actions preventing data loss and ensuring mission critical access was unaffected. Mango Bay Internet has customers all over the U.S. that were not affected and relied on us to keep things up and running.

The pictures below were taken the night of the blackout.  Emergency generators powered equipment, lights and even a television that kept workers informed.

GREAT CATCH CAUGHT ON VIDEO

On June 29, 2003, Alan Jacubenta a.k.a. "AJ", President of Mango Bay Internet caught a foul ball at Jacobs Field.  While attending the Cleveland Indians vs. Cincinnati Reds baseball game, a foul ball off the bat of Milton Bradley somehow landed in AJ's glove.  The catch was captured by Fox Sports Net and replayed for viewers. Perhaps playing on the Softball team helped!  You can see a streaming video of the clip by clicking on one of the following links below.  Did we mention we offer streaming video?

Important Virus Warning - Win32 Blaster

Mango Bay Internet strongly urges that all customers should check to see if their system(s) are infected with the Windows RPC/DCOM virus/worm, Win32 Blaster. This situation can significantly impact network performance, resulting in latency and sporadic service interruptions to our customers. This is especially important to those customers who do not subscribe to our Anti-Virus service or those who do not regularly update their Windows with security patches.

To prevent further infection and protect your pc and/or network you must perform the steps listed below.

How to Remove/Eradicate the Virus/Worm:

  1. Go here to read the official Microsoft Security Bulletin, and download the appropriate patch for your version of Windows (listed at the bottom of the bulletin).
  2. Run the patch as a user with Administrator privileges.
  3. Reboot the PC.
  4. After the PC is rebooted and the latest antivirus software definitions have been installed, scan the entire PC. If you do not have current antivirus software, a removal tool for this virus can be found here.

After you've performed the above steps:

It is important to keep your pc up to date with the latest security patches from Microsoft.  We would advise you to apply the latest windows update or you can download the security patch for this virus below:

Getting Too Much Spam?  How To Adjust Your Settings

Users of our Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam service know how valuable it is.  Mango Bay Internet blocks thousands of unsolicited email and email-borne viruses every day.  Our customers have found this system to be extremely effective.

Are you still getting too much spam?

Most calls to technical support about spam are resolved by adjusting the user's settings within the console.  To do so, please follow these simple directions:

  1. Login to the Anti-Virus/Spam Quarantined Message Center.
  2. Click on "Junk Email Settings."

This page will allow you to adjust the spam sensitivity settings.  Notice that for each category of unsolicited email, there are settings that range from Lenient to Aggressive.  We suggest that you select either Aggressive or the setting just before.  The diagram below illustrates these settings.

Set your spam settings to curb junk mail!

  1. Add any email address that you never want to receive email from in the "Blocked Senders" box.  This will block all email from the addresses specified.

  2. Add any email address that you always want to receive email from in the "Approved Senders" box.  The emails you receive from these addresses will bypass our spam filters and be delivered to your mailbox after they are scanned for viruses.

  3. If you receive an email that you feel should have not passed our filters, please forward it to spam@mangobay.com.

By now, you should realize the extreme importance of using our powerful virus protection service - not having the service could endanger your system and information stored on it.
Our Virus Protection service will automatically protect you from fast-spreading email viruses.

Once a virus is detected, you'll be immediately notified via email that a virus-infected message has been quarantined in your private, web-based message center. You'll be able to safely view the contents of the message at no risk to your system or your data.

Getting too many notifications?

System administrators and those that are prone to receiving many quarantined virus notifications can adjust the frequency of these notifications:

  1. Login to the Anti-Virus/Spam Quarantined Message Center.

  2. Click "Virus Settings."

  3. Under Notifications, select either "No more than one notice per day," or "Disable notifications."

  4. This will affect the notification of received viruses only.  By default, our system will notify you via email immediately.  This setting alters that notification as shown below:

This service is available for only $1.50 per account/mo or included in our premium internet access.  As a special offer, you can add Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam and PopUpProtection all for only $2.50 per account per month.  Inquire within for enterprise-wide service.
